2019 had just begun – it was a week old – and our client knew what she wanted. She was undergoing a major gut renovation for her lakefront home: she had her vision and plans set out previously and had been to plenty of other flooring suppliers in the city but had not found the right floors that met her needs nor concerns. It was towards the end of that first week in 2019, when she was referred to Khayeri Flooring by one of the city’s prominent and renowned leading kitchen suppliers.

On her first visit to the showroom she had brought a sample of the kitchen cabinet that she had intended to use, her iPad Pro and her notebook filled with detailed notes, measurements and project execution timelines. Our client knew that in order for her to find the right hardwood floors for her project she has to provide as much details as possible. During the first 45 minutes of her visit, she patiently answered the Khayeri Flooring Showroom Consultant’s questions, at the end of which, two challenges became clear: the Design Challenge and the Durability Challenge.

The task was to modernize the lakefront home but keep certain elements intact to portray heritage and authenticity; to make the best of the view by incorporating the existing beautiful old trees into the design. Our client already had a vision of her kitchen in mind and was certain that the floors were equally as important in the grand scheme of design.

She was also fully conscious of the environmental challenges that the location of her home would present. Located on Balsam Lake, it being a water-front property, and the severity of the winters witnessed in that area, all gave her major concerns on how her floors would perform.

Khayeri’s solution was an understanding, innovative and insightful one. Choosing the Memories of Versailles’ 300 Year Old Reclaimed Series, with Baltic Marine Grade Birch for superior structural stability and dimensional integrity in the forces of expansion and contraction, and a manufacturing process that used Dry Kerning, Khayeri installed reclaimed French While Oak across the 2,300 sq. ft. of space. He followed it up with frequent inspection meetings to ensure site and sub-floor conditions met the internationally accepted standards.

Two challenges overcome with one product. That’s genius in design.

The khayeri difference

Married for 35 years, our clients turned a southern revival style vineyard farmhouse into their dream home – a lifestyle choice and massive project in which Khayeri was heavily involved. 300-year-old reclaimed wood from France laid the foundations of a home that was welcoming and warm, light and bright, adding a touch of nostalgia and a great deal of inspiration.

When asked how the couple, long time residents of the GTA, discovered Khayeri and why they chose them, their answer was a simple one: “there was no recommendation, or anything, we just did our own research and found Khayeri online. We liked the look of the floors… we met with Mehran personally and were very impressed. There was just something that drew us to those floors.”

It was this initial meeting that set the tone for future interactions. Both agreed that Khayeri was there “every step of the way.” “We were always in loop, they updated us regularly and we knew we were dealing with 300-year-old reclaimed wood from France, so it was a big deal getting it here. We always felt that we were up-to-date.”

Khayeri flooring has long held the belief that the genius is in the design; the right process – what is known as the Khayeri Journey – is key to letting the wood speak for itself. Our inspiration is taken, maintained and left to roam free when its finally relocated. And our clients agree. When talking about why they chose the Khayeri floor they did, they said, “It was a no brainer, it’s like linen. It’s so versatile. It can take on so many different styles. And then there’s the therapeutic feel you get when you walk on it.”

Now complete, looking back at the Khayeri process, product and service, they have one thing to say: “Whenever we have people over, everyone comments on the floors — more than anything else in the house — they always compliment us on the floors. But you know what? Even if they didn’t, we wouldn’t care. We love these floors so much!”

This is the Khayeri difference. Helping turn a southern revival style vineyard farmhouse into a couple’s dream home, one plank of sustainable wood at a time.
