I have stopped by The Corner 108 to begin my day. As I enjoy my espresso and perfectly crusted sourdough bun, the minimalist ambiance of the exposed brick walls, thin wood surfaces, and smooth beige flooring lend a pleasant sense of calm.

I have always loved walking through the Round Tower. Its design, at once so simple and yet so powerful, is a perennial creative lodestar for me. When I ascend its perpetually curving walkway, the stream of bricks along the floor bending like flowing water, I feel my thoughts begin to drift comfortably. As I leave, I take note of just how powerful an effect the simplistic environment has had on me.

I decide to lunch amid the vibrancy and energy of the harbours of Nyhavn. As I stroll along the boardwalk, I’m struck by the shimmering beauty of the brightly coloured townhouses across the canal being reflected in the water. It creates an impression that is both ethereal and expansive, one that sends my mind spinning with inspiration.

Danish furniture design has always held a special draw for me, and so I find myself in Fredericia Furniture. Looking past the surreal effect of the floating chairs installation, I’m at once greeted by minimalist yet elegant chairs and tables populating the first showroom. I study furniture lines, textures, and colours - all atop wide-planked white flooring that showcases rather than distracts.

Growing weary, I decide to visit one of my favourite buildings, The Black Diamond. After pausing on the top floor to gaze out of its immense wall of glass, I retreat to a study room in The Royal Library to catalogue all I’ve seen today and formulate my thoughts.

Finally, I allow myself some time to work. I meet with a few designer friends of mine living in Copenhagen at their favourite restaurant, Radio. There, against the stained wood walls, while we eat locally caught cod and beetroot grown next door, I tell my friends all I have seen and thought of today. For a moment, immersed in the milieu of everything this city offers, I feel like a local.
